Ongoing until all 200 scholarships are used up
This is an important initiative for our children and parents. We are reaching out to share an urgent and important opportunity to make a difference in the lives of youth in our community. According to recent data from the American Red Cross, African American children ages 5 to 19 are 5.5 times more likely to drown in swimming pools than their Caucasian peers. This tragic disparity highlights the critical need for increased access to swimming lessons and water safety education.
To address this, the City of Temple, in partnership with the American Red Cross Centennial Campaign, is launching a new initiative to provide affordable swim lessons to low-income families.
Through this program, the city is offering 200 scholarships, each covering $40 of the $50 lesson cost, leaving just $10 contribution per child from participating families. This small investment encourages commitment to completing the lessons.
Swim Lesson Details:
· Sessions: Two-week programs, Monday–Thursday, 45 minutes per session.
· Locations: Four across the city. (Summit, Walker, Clark, Lions)
· Ages: Parent & Tot (up to age 3), children, and family-level options.
